Slovenian snow queens

February 25 is marked as the day of victories of Slovenian athletes on the snow: Špela Pretnar won second place in the giant slalom for the World Cup in Mariborsko Pohorje in 1995. In 2010, Tina Maze won a silver medal at the Olympic Giant Slalom in Whistler. In 2017, Slovenian skier Ilka Štuhec celebrated her victory in the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Crans-Montana in the super-giant slalom. Finally, in 2021, the dream achievement was recorded by Ema Klinec, who beat all the competition at the inaugural ski jumping competition in Oberstdorf and won the title of world champion.

In February 1984, the first Winter Olympics took place in the Balkans, in former Yugoslavia. The event ended ceremoniously on February 19. At these Olympic Games, Jure Franko won a silver medal in the giant slalom, the first Olympic medal for Slovenia and Yugoslavia.

The ninth rock from the sun was discovered on February 18, 1930, by American astronomer Clyde William Tombaugh at the Arizona Observatory. It is named after the Roman god of the underworld, Pluto.
